The Olympics 2008 - Reality Challenge

I love the drama of the Olympics. It is a top notch ‘reality’ show. Whereas most ‘reality’ shows are suspect in that you can never know for sure what’s being edited in or out, the Olympics offer us the chance to watch highly motivated and trained individuals perform in a high stress situation. How they handle their wins and their losses. They’ve without exception devoted the vast majority of their time and energy to be there. In most cases to find out within a few short seconds or minutes whether it has all been worthwhile.

We get to see it happen ‘live’. We will witness some very real emotions. And we will react with some very real emotions ourselves. From my point of view, if we choose to do so, it allows us the opportunity to reassess the value we place on certain matters. The highs and lows of life. What to do with the time we have. It just isn’t sports folks. It’s a reminder of how ephemeral life can be. And it can move us to ask - where are we going to spend our energies?
